Mỗi hero sẽ có 1 Species và 1 Class và chúng ta phải sử dụng các quân cờ mình có thể mua sao cho có mối liên kết giữa Species và Class của những quân cờ. Còn ở Dota Underlords, Species và Class đã được gộp chung thành cái gọi là Alliance và cách sử dụng những Alliance này cũng có một chút khác biệt so với phiên bản gốc.
